TRACY MCSPORRAN

Since graduating in 2006 from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, I have been developing workshop skills creating 18carat gold commission pieces and collections of jewellery that are both original and contemporary.

Inspired by the relationship between line and curve, it is a strong theme through my work and outlines of simple geometric shapes are softened by riveting on thermoplastic coloured acrylic to the silver to create a natural balance within the piece.

I am one of only two makers in the UK that I know of who use this unique and original material in this way. Perfect  for use in jewellery, it is very light and robust. The intricate detail is individually layered electro-statically to apply an even layer of colour round a steel rod and kiln formed to create a solid sphere of colour that when sliced open reveals these beautiful striped discs. And as no two are ever identical this creates a one off piece for every wearer.

Geometric shapes are carried on through my work as the simple design and high quality of workmanship makes my work stand out from the ordinary. 3D forms are fabricated in silver, often sitting proud and complimented with unusual gemstone beads which give a fascinating contrast to the textures and polished surfaces of silver. Some have scatterings of diamonds to add highlighted to a scratch matt finish.

Simplicity is key in my designs. Clean lines, flowing curves, and crisp corners work together to make beautiful one off pieces of contemporary design of which anyone can wear.
