RITA FEVEREIRO
Rita Fevereiro, born in Lisbon, in 1980, currently living in London is an installation artist, photographer video artist, and the creator of a very particular and unique project in contemporary jewellery. Fevereiro's work derives mostly from real world issues than from questions exclusively to the intrinsic aspects of the work of art. In her work reality is a working material, susceptible of being shaped or even created artistically, existing in friction zones, where the boundaries between what makes something be art or not get blurred.
She has been living for short periods of time in foreign countries since her 5th year of University - Honour's Degree in Fine Arts, first for 5 months in Belgium, doing Erasmus program, afterwards in France with Leonardo da Vinci Scholarship, and recently in London, working and studying photography, Rita has been using this travel experiences in her projects, developing a solid body of work with it.
Her relationship with materials is one of awareness of it's autonomous creative power. Her aim is to allow reciprocity between what is defined by the medium and herself. That's how she uses waste as well as living nature in her work.
Often her work engages a political agenda, but not being art as propaganda, in the service of a certain political agenda, it's instead the abolishment of the frontiers that separate them, making art and politics equal in importance: aesthetic and politic gesture, raising questions capable of bringing to light what is hidden and clouded. In beyonDustry, ecologic concerns are raised. If, on the one hand, Fevereiro feels attracted by the scientific and technological advancements, on the other, she can see that nature is being often neglected in favour of economic and technological development.
